We can fully fund our schools without raising taxes. Catawba County is growing, and our revenue is increasing. Instead of decreasing our budget and leaving millions of dollars in unassigned funding, we can forward invest that money in K-12 classrooms and vocational training.
Intravenous drug users who participate in syringe exchange programs are 5 times more likely to get treatment. That’s why the county should be allocating resources for harm-reduction programs that protect the public and create bridges between active users and clinical treatment.
Affordable housing affects everyone. We can’t fill current job openings without places for young, working-class families to live. We also need more options for senior citizens on fixed incomes, single parents, and our brothers and sisters who are homeless.
We are already big business friendly. Now we must invest in small business owners and entrepreneurs in underdeveloped areas of the county so they can hire more workers, pay better wages, and give back to their own communities.
QUALITY OF LIFE
People want two things: litter-free roadways and more parks. As an added bonus, these two things also positively impact the economy and the environment.
Representatives should listen, then lead. They should show up where you are, ask what’s important to you, and set their agenda based on your priorities. That is the only way ALL people of ALL walks of life will have a say in their government.
